Descartes Systems Appoints Managing Director For Asia Pacific, Strengthening Worldwide Sales Team

WATERLOO, ONTARIO, January 20, 1999 – The Descartes Systems Group Inc., a leading provider of inter-enterprise execution solutions for supply chain management, today announced that Aivars Lode, formerly general manager for Oracle Corporation's Consumer Division for Australasia, has been appointed as the Managing Director of Descartes' Asia Pacific region.
Lode will have overall responsibility for managing field sales and service operations for the Asia Pacific region. He brings many years of experience in international sales and service management to his new role at Descartes. In addition to his role at Oracle, he also held a senior management position at Dun & Bradstreet Software, where he was responsible for the company's sales & service operations in Asia Pacific.

The appointment of Lode is the latest of several strategic moves announced in support of Descartes long-term growth strategies. In November 1998, the company launched a new Vertical Industry Initiative that introduced four new North America operations business units. The new business units are structured to provide specialized sales and support services for the company's key vertical markets - Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Perishable, Consumer Packaged Goods Non-perishable, High Technology & Field Service, and Transportation & Logistics.
Over the past year the company has strengthened its worldwide sales team by adding several new senior management professionals. In June 1998, the company appointed Alex Mackay, formerly from SAP, to head up sales operations for North America. In November 1998, the company appointed Rich Cialabrini, from EXE Technologies, to lead Descartes' Non-Perishable unit and Rob Getz, also from EXE, to lead the High Technology & Field Service unit. In October 1998, Enrique Gamazo, formerly from Manugistics, joined Descartes to manage the company's Major Account Sales and Alliances in Europe.
